Licensing

TDMap is proprietary software. To use it for MIDI mapping you need either a Patreon membership or a one-time Gumroad license (or the 7-day trial). Sign in once per computer — then map offline. We don’t check on every launch, and we never downgrade you automatically.

In plain terms

Base and Pro are two feature tiers. Your tier comes from your Patreon membership level or the Gumroad product you bought. MIDI mapping keeps working at a show even if you’re offline; the app does not phone home on a timer.

The short version

Once you’ve signed in on a computer, the version you have keeps working there — for as long as you like, offline, free. This is true for both Patreon and Gumroad.
You do not have to stay subscribed on Patreon to keep using TDMap. If you cancel, the version you already installed carries on exactly as before — nothing locks, nothing downgrades. (Staying subscribed is hugely appreciated and is literally what funds new features — but it isn’t required to keep working.)
You only need an active license for two things:
1. Installing updates to a newer version, and
2. Activating TDMap on a new computer.
Patreon covers both while you’re subscribed. Gumroad covers both for life (one purchase, lifetime updates, up to 5 computers).

Patreon — subscription

What you get: Use TDMap at your membership tier, plus updates and new-computer activations for as long as you’re subscribed.
Sign-in: Once per computer via Patreon in the auth gate (browser OAuth).
Day to day: No Patreon check on launch. Your credentials live in a signed local file on your machine, and the tier you signed in with keeps working indefinitely.
If you stop subscribing: Nothing locks. The version you’ve installed keeps working on that computer, at the same tier, forever — offline and untouched. You just won’t get new updates, and you can’t activate a new computer, until you resubscribe (or buy a Gumroad license). Re-subscribing later? Hugely appreciated — it’s what keeps the features coming — but it’s never required to keep using what you have.
Check for updates: When you check, we may contact Patreon briefly to pick up a Base → Pro upgrade. We never downgrade you automatically — if your membership drops to Base or lapses, your installed tier keeps working untouched.
Install update: Verifies active membership live (this is the one place entitlement is re-evaluated). If you’ve canceled, that install is refused — you are not deauthorized: local auth stays, the editor stays open, and you keep the same tier you already had. If you’ve downgraded to a lower tier, we ask you to confirm before switching — cancel to stay on your current tier and version.

Gumroad — lifetime license

What you get: A one-time purchase with lifetime updates for that tier (Base or Pro).
Activation: Paste your license key from the Gumroad receipt — once per computer.
Machines: Up to five computers per license. Same machine re-activated later does not use another seat. Need more? Email us after signing out on old machines.
Check for updates: Uses your local activation only — no Gumroad call.
Install update: Verifies the license live (refunds/chargebacks block the install, not your existing mappings).

Offline & the auth gate

If you haven’t signed in yet, the mapping editor stays closed — but live MIDI → parameters still works.
After sign-in, editing works offline. Update checks use cached tier when Patreon or Gumroad can’t be reached. The version you installed keeps working offline indefinitely — there’s no recurring check.
Updates come through the in-app updater. If a newer build than the one you installed shows up (for example, a .tox swapped in by hand instead of installed in-app), Patreon members re-confirm their active membership once online before the editor opens again — it verifies in the background with nothing to do, and editing stays disabled only if your subscription can’t be confirmed as active. Gumroad lifetime licenses are not affected (you own every future version), and installing updates the normal way never triggers this.
Auth data is stored in your OS app-data folder (e.g. %APPDATA%\TDMap\ on Windows), signed and bound to that computer. Don’t share or copy the file to another PC.
Sign out (in Preferences) clears local auth so you can switch Patreon ↔ Gumroad or enter a new key. Your mappings in TDMap_Config are not deleted.

In-app trial: Run the real TDMap component with full Pro features for 7 days, without a Patreon or Gumroad sign-in. The clock starts when you begin the trial and runs in real time (it keeps counting whether or not TDMap is open); a countdown shows the time left. When the week is up, the mapping editor closes and you’re invited to get a Patreon membership or Gumroad license — your MIDI mappings are kept either way.
The trial needs internet: unlike a paid license (which runs offline indefinitely), the trial validates with our server when TDMap starts and about once an hour while it runs, and the remaining time is kept on the server — so changing your computer’s date won’t extend it. If TDMap can’t reach the server (at launch, or offline for more than about an hour) the trial pauses — it doesn’t end and no time is lost — and resumes automatically once you’re back online.
The trial is a one-time evaluation per computer (we use a machine identifier so it can’t be reset endlessly), and like any demo it’s provided as is — it’s not a license and doesn’t include updates.

TouchDesigner is licensed separately by Derivative. TDMap is made by Function Store and is not affiliated with Derivative.

1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, activating, or using the Software, you (“you”, “Licensee”) agree to this End User License Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.

Purchases and subscriptions made through Patreon or Gumroad are also subject to those platforms’ terms. Where they conflict with this EULA regarding payment or refunds, the platform terms control for those matters.

2. The Software

TDMap is proprietary software, not open source. It is distributed as a locked TouchDesigner component (.tox) with an accompanying web-based configuration UI. The Software is offered in two feature tiers: Base and Pro.

TouchDesigner is a separate product by Derivative Inc. You must comply with Derivative’s license for TouchDesigner. We are not affiliated with Derivative.

3. License grant

Subject to this EULA and your valid entitlement (Section 4), we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

Install and use the Software on computers you control, for your own creative, production, or personal work.
Use the tier (Base or Pro) you are entitled to.
Receive and install updates for that tier as described in Section 5.

No ownership of the Software is transferred to you. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

4. Entitlement — how you may access TDMap

You must obtain entitlement through one of the following paths (not both simultaneously on the same machine unless you switch via Sign out in the Software):

4.1 Patreon (subscription)

You hold an active Patreon membership with Function Store at the Base or Pro tier matching the Software tier you use.
Subscription grants the right to use the Software and to download and install updates while the membership remains active and in good standing.
Sign-in via Patreon OAuth is required once per computer (or again after Sign out).

4.2 Gumroad (one-time purchase)

You purchase a lifetime license for the Base or Pro tier through our Gumroad product.
The license includes lifetime updates for the purchased tier, subject to the machine limit in Section 4.3.
Activation uses the license key provided at purchase.

4.3 Machine limit (Gumroad)

Each Gumroad license key may be activated on up to five (5) computers at a time. Activating on a new computer may consume one activation seat. Re-activating on a computer that was already activated with the same key does not consume an additional seat. If you exceed the limit, contact us for a seat reset after deactivating old machines (Sign out on each).

4.4 Tier changes

Patreon: Tier changes follow your Patreon membership. An upgrade (e.g. Base → Pro) may sync when you check for updates; the Software does not automatically downgrade an already-installed copy. Entitlement is otherwise re-evaluated only when you install an update.
Gumroad: A new tier generally requires purchasing and activating the appropriate license key for that tier.

5. Updates and online services

The Software may contact our servers and third-party services (Patreon, Gumroad) over HTTPS to:

Authenticate you and determine your tier.
Check whether a newer version is available for your tier.
Download and verify update packages.

Checking for updates uses locally stored credentials where possible. Installing an update requires a live entitlement check:

Patreon: Active membership at the entitled tier at install time.
Gumroad: Valid, non-refunded license at install time.

If entitlement fails at install time, the update is refused; your already-installed copy may continue to run as described in Section 6.

Running a newer build than you are entitled to (subscription only). The Software records the version confirmed by your most recent live entitlement check. If it later detects that it is running a newer version than that — for example because program files were replaced manually rather than through the in-app updater — and your access is via a Patreon subscription, it will require a live re-verification that your membership is still active before restoring access to the configuration UI and MIDI mapping. An active membership re-verifies automatically; if it cannot be confirmed as active, editing stays disabled until it is. Gumroad lifetime licenses are exempt — a valid purchase entitles you to every future version, so no re-verification is required. Updates installed through the in-app updater are pre-authorized and never trigger this.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue update distribution at any time. We are not obligated to provide updates indefinitely, though Gumroad lifetime licenses are intended to receive updates for the purchased tier for the life of the product.

6. Use without active Patreon membership

If your Patreon subscription ends, you may continue using the version and tier already installed on your computer without signing out. Day-to-day use and the mapping editor stay available with your existing local authentication. You will not receive new updates until you resubscribe or obtain a valid Gumroad license — a failed update install does not revoke your local auth or close the editor. This applies to the version already installed on your computer; obtaining and running a newer build outside the in-app updater requires a live re-verification that your subscription is still active (Section 5; Gumroad lifetime licenses are exempt). Signing out or clearing local authentication voluntarily will require authenticating again (Patreon or Gumroad) before using the mapping editor.

Gumroad licenses remain valid for use and updates unless the purchase is refunded, charged back, or disputed, in which case update installation may be refused.

7. Local authentication data

The Software stores authentication data locally in your operating system’s application data folder (for example %APPDATA%\TDMap\ on Windows). This data is bound to your computer and integrity-protected to reduce casual tampering.

You must not:

Share, publish, or transfer authentication files or license keys.
Edit authentication files to circumvent tier or entitlement checks.
Copy authentication intended for one computer to another to avoid activation limits.

8. Restrictions

You must not:

Redistribute, resell, sublicense, rent, or lease the Software or locked .tox files (except as allowed by law).
Share Gumroad license keys or Patreon-backed access with others.
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the Software’s source or embedded credentials except where applicable law expressly permits such activity despite this limitation.
Circumvent or attempt to circumvent tier, entitlement, or version checks — including substituting Software files or running a newer build than your entitlement covers — to access features or updates you are not entitled to.
Remove or alter proprietary notices.
Use the Software in a manner that violates law or third-party rights.

Repository source code may be made available to subscribers or purchasers for transparency and for modification on your own licensed copy only. Availability of source does not grant redistribution rights.

9. Sign out and license changes

You may Sign out in the Software to clear local authentication, switch between Patreon and Gumroad, or enter a different Gumroad key. Sign out does not delete your TouchDesigner project mappings stored outside the locked component.

10. Demo and trial

We may offer (a) a browser-based demo for evaluation, and (b) a time-limited in-app trial (currently seven (7) calendar days from first start) that temporarily enables Pro features in the Software without a Patreon or Gumroad entitlement. The in-app trial counts down in real time whether or not the Software is open; it is one-time per computer and may use a machine identifier to enforce that limit.

Unlike a paid license (Section 6), the in-app trial requires internet connectivity: it must validate with our servers when the Software starts and periodically while running. If it cannot reach our servers (including for a sustained period while in use), the trial pauses; remaining trial time is not reduced during a pause, and the trial resumes when connectivity returns. Trial entitlement and remaining time are determined on our servers, not by changing your computer’s date.

A demo or trial is provided as is, grants no ongoing license or right to updates, and ends automatically when the trial period expires. We may modify or withdraw demos and trials at any time.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every MIDI device or TouchDesigner build, or free of harmful components.

Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of implied warranties; in those jurisdictions, the above exclusions apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FUNCTION STORE AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THIS EULA OR THE SOFTWARE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SOFTWARE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY US DOLLARS (USD $50).

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability for certain damages; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

13. Termination

This license is effective until terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach this EULA. We may terminate or suspend entitlement for fraud, abuse, or chargebacks.

Upon termination, you must stop using the Software and destroy copies in your possession. Sections that by nature should survive (restrictions, disclaimers, limitation of liability) survive termination.

14. Privacy

Authentication uses Patreon OAuth and/or Gumroad license verification. We do not receive your Patreon password. Tokens and license keys are stored locally on your machine as described in Section 7. Network requests are made for authentication, tier resolution, update metadata, and update downloads. For in-app trials, the Software may also contact our trial-entitlement service with a machine identifier to start, validate, and manage the trial window. We do not continuously monitor your mapping activity.

15. Changes to this EULA

We may update this EULA from time to time. The Last updated date at the top will change. Material changes will be posted at tdmap.functionstore.xyz/license/ (or successor URL). Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

16. General

Entire agreement: This EULA, together with applicable platform purchase terms, is the entire agreement regarding the Software.
Severability: If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.
No waiver: Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
Assignment: You may not assign this license. We may assign our rights in connection with a merger, sale, or reorganization.
Governing law: This EULA is governed by the laws applicable to Function Store in its principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence provide otherwise.
